Restrictive measures during The Spanish Influence

The authorities recognized the seriousness of the situation only during the second wave of influence, with war practically over.

Alarm systems for flu cases were introduced, ordered in ports and railway stations, and isolated wards were set up in hospitals in the various cities.

Passengers on public transport were asked to wear masks to avoid new infections.

The principle of 'social distance' was applied to avoid highly dangerous and infectious mass encounters. Schools, theatres, movie theaters, restaurants, markets, and churches were temporarily closed.

The use of masks and disinfectants was imposed by law.

Since the 1918 Pandemic, to avoid new similar situations, in 1952, the WHO established the Global Influenza Surveillance and Response System (GISRS) on the goal of collaborating laboratories around the world on flu vaccines.
